Forecast Discussion

The weather map this morning shows a low in Wisconsin moving northeast. This is the low that brought us the rain yesterday/last night. High pressure in the Plains will move east providing us with a dry day with temperatures in the mid-upper 60s. The next storm is going to be a larger storm as it moves across the southern Plains. The low is currently located in the Rockies. It will move east and Iowa will be along the north side. Rain is expected to move back into eastern Iowa tomorrow afternoon. Below are computer models (NAM, GFS, NOGAPS and Canadian) for Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. There is a little difference on when the rain will begin as well as how far north the heavier rain will be.

There is a potential for severe weather with storm Tuesday. The best chance appears to be to our south. We will generally have rain and a few thunderstorms. There is an area of potentially heavy precipitation from Colorado east to Illinois. Southern Iowa may see some of that heavier amount. The amounts drop off quickly as go north. The above map is the precipitation totals for Tuesday morning through Thursday morning.
