A beautiful start to our summer day.Oh wait a minutes, it is still spring, not summer. It was hard to believe it is spring with the temperatures in the upper 80s. It felt more like summer.

Not a cloud in the sky across the state and some surrounding states as well. The sky will remain clear through most of the day.

The above two maps show were there is a warm front located across northern Iowa. Just north of the front the wind is from the east and south of the warm front the wind is from the south. This front will separate tempertures near 90 degrees from temperatures in the upper 70s.

Above is a closer look at the map for Iowa. The position of the front will be critical for how warm it will get as well as the chance of t-storms late this afternoon.

1 PM GFS Surface Forecast

The low is located in northwest Iowa with the front extending through eastern Iowa...almost where it is this morning. Not much movement to the warm front is expected. Areas along and north of the front will have a slight chance of a thunderstorm late this afternoon. The cold front will swing through Iowa tonight and keep the slight chance of thunderstorm in the forecast. Many areas will remain dry.

Severe Weather Risk

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) forecast has a slight risk for severe weather along and north of the warm front later today.
