The ground is frozen and snow continues to melt. Now rain is expected to fall this weekend. Something to watch over the next week or two will be ice jams. Ice jams occur when warm temperatures and heavy rain cause rapid snow melting. The melting snow combined with the heavy rain, causes frozen rivers to swell. The rising water breaks the ice layer into large chunks, which float downstream and often pile up near narrow passages or near obstructions, such as bridges and dams.
