The above map is from the lastest GFS model output for Saturday morning. The center of the low will be located near central Kansas. By this time warm air moving in from the south over the cold air will form sleet and freezing rain...this is expected to begin Friday evening.
The above map positions the low over the Kansas/Missouri state line. The timing of the change over to to all snow is still in question. I am thinking sometime Saturday late afernoon or evening the transition should begin.
The above map shows the low over central or west/central Illinois by Sunday morning. At this point the precipitation should be all snow. The exact timing of the change over and the exact path as well as how much moisture is left will have an impact on how much snow we will get in eastern Iowa. At this point it is still early to pin down some numbers. So I will have to say accumulations are like with the potential for significant snow. Stay tuned for more details as the storm gets closer to the area.

Love the blog Schnack.Being a weather nut I wish you could give us some info as what the amounts would be if the storm pans out exactly as it looks now,as well as a couple other scenerios.They used to give us 2 or 3 different scenerios when I lived in Boston so we could be prepared when the big one did pan out.Just a suggestion but keep up the good work
