Weekend Storm

Our weather is going to be warmer this week as temperatures will be in the upper 30s and 40s. It will also be precipitation free until Friday. A lot can change between now and the weekend but if you look to the left at the GFS model for Saturday evening you will notice the large area of low pressure in the middle of the country. This is the reason for the chance of rain in the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are still some uncertainty on what kind of weather we are going to get. Many factors will come into play with this storm for example the exact position and path of the low in addition to the location of the positive vorticity advection (PVA) associated this storm is going to be crucial in what happens here in eastern Iowa. Vorticity advection is a good indicator of rising motion in the atmosphere need to for clouds and precipitation. The map to the right shows the yellow/orange shaded area to be the PVA.
