Storm Survey for Louisa/Muscatine/Jackson Counties

A post storm damage assessment survey team dispatched from the Quad Cities National Weather Service Office is surveying the damage caused by severe weather this afternoon. The following report is preliminary and will be updated as additional information is obtained.

Tornado confirmed...

Location: Muscatine
Estimated Time: 12:25 PM
EF-Scale Rating: EF2
Estimated Wind Speed: 125 to 130 mph
Path Width: 1/4 mile on south side 100 yards on north side


Location: Fruitland
Estimated Time: 12:20 PM
EF-Scale Rating: EF3
Estimated Wind Speed: 136 to 140 mph
Estimated Path Width: 1/4 mile



Location: Grandview
Estimated Time: 12:15 PM
EF-Scale Rating: EF3
Estimated Wind Speed 136 to 140 mph
Path Width: 1/8 mile
Tornado Path Length: 16 miles. Damage began 1 mile southwest of Grandview and ended on the north side of Muscatine

Preliminary survey information indicates the damage in Grandview and Muscatine was caused by the same tornado. This will be confirmed at a later time.

Location: Bellevue, IA and rural Jo Daviess County IL

Estimated Time: 2:20 to 2:28 PM
EF-Scale Rating: EF2

Estimated Wind Speed: 120-130 mph

Path Width: 350 yards

Path Length: 4 miles

Damage specifics...south side of Muscatine:
Large power poles snapped
Trees snapped and uprooted
Cinder block factory had walls collapse and roof torn off
One rain car was overturned
Many buildings received structural damage

Damage specifics...north side of Muscatine:
DOT garage had three sheds destroyed with roof torn off another shed
Other buildings received minor structural damage
A day care center lost siding and shingles

Damage specifics...Grandview:
Widespread tree damage
10-20 homes received minor structural damage
5-10 homes received major structural damage
A house was completely flattened and trees were shredded on a farm approximately 2 miles north of Grandview.

Damage specifics...Bellevue

One mobile home was destroyed

Numerous farm out buildings were destroyed

Trees were snapped and uprooted

Five homes sustained roof and structural damage

No injuries
